Public lighting stays in operation for decades. So our projects start not with the luminaire but with the existing installation, and they do not end at commissioning.
We record light points, masts and controls, inspect the lighting columns and assess the installation against the relevant standards. The result is a preliminary study with variants, costs and energy demand, which serves as the basis for the decision by the municipal council or committee.
We assign streets, paths and squares to lighting classes and calculate every variant. We set light colour, shielding and dimming profiles so that light only reaches the places where it is needed.
For the public tender we prepare the bill of quantities, technical specifications and LDT data. This makes the bids comparable, even when different manufacturers are bidding.
We supply luminaires, masts and control components according to a project-specific parts list. We support the installer on site and aim the luminaires according to the lighting plan.
After installation we set up the controls and measure the installation according to the guidelines of the Swiss Lighting Society (SLG). The measurement report shows that the design values are actually achieved on the street.
We provide spare parts, readjustment and new dimming profiles over the entire service life. Because our luminaires are designed to be repairable, a defect means a spare part, not a new luminaire.
We design streets, paths and squares to SN EN 13201. The standard divides traffic areas into lighting classes and sets luminance or illuminance, uniformity and glare limitation for each class. Choosing the class is the real design decision: it determines the number and output of the luminaires.
Sports facilities are covered by SN EN 12193, and schools, sports halls and administrative buildings by SN EN 12464-1, whose 2021 edition brought several changes. Indoors, we verify energy demand to SIA 387/4. Outdoors, we follow the recommendations of the Federal Office for the Environment (FOEN) on avoiding light emissions: precisely shielded, with a warm light colour and reduced at night.
ProKilowatt does not fund street lighting: public lighting of streets, parks and pedestrian zones is explicitly excluded. Sports grounds and indoor lighting are a different matter. Refurbishing a sports hall, a school or an outdoor sports facility can receive a grant of up to 30% of the investment, provided the payback period and cost-effectiveness meet the criteria. For smaller projects, Lightbankplus is an option. Under both programmes, the order may only be placed once the funding decision or admission is in hand. We therefore check eligibility as early as the preliminary study and prepare the supporting evidence for the application.
For the revitalised village centre we developed a ring of light as a catenary luminaire that deliberately leaves the listed façades dark. Each LED module is aimed individually and calculated to SN EN 13201, with central control via esave.
For the municipal sports hall we built a conversion kit that fits the existing ball-impact resistant housings and brings the DALI-2 control with it. The project was funded by the Lightbank.
